Painter, expressionist, creator, human.

Jessica Mata is a Boricua and Panamanian visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York, whose work explores themes of mental health, spirituality, healing, identity and her connection to nature. Through a multidisciplinary approach rooted in painting and influenced by her studies in Art History and black-and-white film photography, Mata creates work that is both introspective and transformative. Her artistic journey began in 2010 when she started creating small works on canvas, a practice that quickly evolved into a life calling. Deeply committed to the idea that art can be a catalyst for self-reflection and healing, Mata uses her creative voice to open conversations around doing that self work, resilience and growth.

Having faced her own challenges with depression, grief and even heartbreak, she paints from lived experiences to infuse her work with vulnerability. Throughout it all she has remained devoted to the creative process, using it as a form of resistance, empowerment, and restoration. Jessica Mata’s mission is to create art that resonates on a soul level. Art that reminds us that even in our darkest moments, beauty can still emerge.
