Painter, expressionist, creator, human.

Jessica Mata is a Boricua and Panamanian visual artist based in Dallas, Texas but raised in Brooklyn and whose work explores themes of spirituality, healing, identity and her connection to ancestor. Through a multidisciplinary approach rooted in painting and influenced by her studies in Art History + black-and-white film photography, Mata creates work that is both introspective and transformative. Her artistic journey began in 2010 when she started creating small works on canvas, a practice that quickly evolved into a life calling. Deeply committed to the idea that art can be a catalyst for self-reflection and healing, Mata uses her creative voice to open conversations around doing that self work, resilience and growth.

Having faced her own challenges with depression and grief she paints from lived experiences. She infuses her work with vulnerability and strength. A remembrance and reflection of the people that came before her. Throughout it all she has remained devoted to the creative process, using it as a form of resistance, empowerment and healing. Jessica Mata’s mission is to create art that resonates on a soul level. Art that reminds us that even in our darkest moments, beauty can still be found in our darkest moments.
